Ayrshire County golfers are quick on the draw

AYRSHIRE drew 5-5 with Renfrewshire at Largs when the West of Scotland Inter County Leagues resumed after a weather enforced week off.

In the youths’ match at Elderslie, Ayrshire got off to a poor start with five balls lost out of bounds on the first. Ayrshire went on to win 5½-4½.

On Saturday, the full team travel to Stirling while the youths entertain Stirling at Brunston Castle.

lTHE 2009 West of Scotland Ladies' Strokeplay Championship will be held at Prestwick Golf Club on Sunday May 3.

It will be the third time in recent years that the championship has been held at Prestwick links, the last being in 1997 when former Ayrshire ladies champion Catherine Malcolm (St Cuthbert) took the title.

Irvine (Bogside), who were scheduled to host the British ladies Strokeplay Championship from August 19 to 21, have agreed to a venue switch with Royal Aberdeen. The ladies home internationals will now be played at Bogside from September 9 to 11.

Ayrshire will be the focus of attention in seniors amateur golf in August 2009 when Prestwick and Prestwick St Nicholas play host to the British Seniors Championship. The R & A event will be held over the two courses from August 5 to 7.

lPRESTWICK man Alasdair Malcolm has succeeded Ricky Magee (Caprinton) as president of the Ayrshire Golf Association. He was appointed at the AGM at Ballochmyle.

David Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) was elected vice president for 2008 to 2010.
