Volleyball: Troon women in John Syer Trophy final

TROON volleyball women will bid to keep their hold on the John Syer Trophy on Sunday.

They face Lanarkshire side Su Ragazzi in the final of the old Top Team Trophy at Wishaw, aiming to win the trophy for the third time in five years.

Holders Troon, who are unbeaten this season, should have a full squad to choose from.

Coach Vince Krawczyk said: “Since the trophy’s inception five years ago, we have been in the final every time. It’s a proud record and we would love to win it again.”

By coincidence, the teams clash 24 hours earlier at Coltness in a First Division league match.

And Su Ragazzi are also the opponents for the men’s first team in a tough away match.

The women’s and gents’ second teams play South Ayrshire seconds in derby matches at Prestwick Academy.

All league games were postponed last weekend due to poor travelling conditions caused by the Arctic weather.
