Ayr United under 19s are five star heroes

AYR United 19s were five alive as they beat Annan 5-3.

They were in front after only three minutes when Dale Moore scored with a looping back post header.

Moore added a second after 30 minutes but a lapse of concentration allowed Annan to claw one back. However, the two goal margin was soon restored when Aaron Connolly scored with a good individual effort.

Annan scored again at the start of the second-half but this woke up Ayr again with Roddy Paterson scoring a double, the first a header, the second after a strong run.

The last word went to Annan after another slip up in the Ayr back line.

Coach Stephen McMillan said: "We really are a frustrating team, at times good to watch and are creating lots of chances and scoring a few goals, but defensively we need to improve.

“We are making too many individual errors, which at this level will get punished. The lads need to learn quickly and gives us plenty to work on at that side of their game, but another victory and lots of positives can be taken.”

Ayr's 17s stretched their 100 per cent record to five games when they beat Arbroath 7-2.

Ayr introduced striker Tommy March for his first start since returning to the club while Dale McCormack replaced skipper JJ Hawkshaw at centre half due to illness. Chris Kelly stepped up from the under 16s.

In only two minutes, Cammy Marlow knocked the ball into the path of Andrew Muir who drove forward and slammed home.

Scott Aitken had a goal ruled out before Lee Lockhart finished brilliantly from 30 yards. Less than a minute later, the visitors got one back.

It was one way traffic in the second half. When Jack McClymont’s curler was parried, Muir slammed home the rebound.

Arbroath brought the margin back to one but Ayr replied through Marlow (2), sub Forsyth and sub Deci Milligan.

Coach Allan Paul said: "This was a great display with a devastating display of fast moving football.”

Ayr 15s travelled to Broadwood and put on a Gr-eight show against Clyde in front of the watching Brian Reid.

Strikes from Liam Anderson, Ryan Nisbett and Aedan Keegan gave them an interval cushion.

Goals followed from Nisbett and Ross Campbell in the second period.

Nisbett and Anderson completed hat-tricks to round off a super display.

Fixtures: On Friday, the 17s play Queen’s Park on the Lesser Hampden 3g astro at 8pm.

On Sunday, the 14s and 15s make the long trek to RAF Lossiemouth to play Elgin City at 2pm.

The 16s and 19s both have a free weekend.
