TOMMY SLOAN wants a crack at Ayr United in the senior Scottish Cup but it’s the Emirates Junior Cup he says is Auchinleck’s priority.
Fresh from routing Fort William 7-0 in their first ever senior Scottish Cup tie, Talbot now head to New Elgin.
And they are so determined to get their defence off to a flier that they will set out on Friday and make an overnight stay.
Boss Sloan said: “We are never going to win the senior cup so the Junior Cup is the priority. But I would love to see us advance and then get a shot at Ayr which would be a tie with huge local interest.”
Talbot’s senior debut ended up a cruise but not before the Highlanders made a bright start only to be rocked in 14 minutes when they had Graeme Barber sent off for hauling down Steve White.
Goals followed from David Gillies, John Boyle (2), Danny McKelvie (2), Sean McIlroy (penalty) and Bryan Slavin.
Veteran sub Stevie Mallan blotted his big day by being harshly sent off while Fort also had Andy Martin dismissed late on.
Sloan said: “It was handbags and never worth a red in the junior game but this is obviously a different level. But we won’t appeal it.”
GIRVAN had a scare when they trailed after only six minutes away to Glasgow University. But a David McVittie header, a super first time shot from Michael Moffat, a howler OG by keeper Ashley Brown and a Darren Mitchell strike sealed the comeback.
IRVINE MEADOW edged past Brora Rangers 2-0 with goals from Steven Swift and Shaun Dillon.
GLENAFTON went top of the First Division when they scraped a 1-0 win at home to Dalry thanks to a Craig Feroz goal with only four minutes to go.
Keeper Ally Semple was the hero in the final minute when he saved a penalty.
MAYBOLE’S poor run continued with a 4-1 defeat at Ashfield despite a bright start when Stuart McGrady and Paul Kerr both went close.
A deflected effort from Ally Martin and a goal from Sean Fraser put the hosts 2-0 up before Stuart Peacock pulled back a headed effort before the break.
Maybole’s hopes were blown away in the second-half by goals from Mark Thomson and Paul Maxwell.
KELLO made it six wins out of six in the Ayrshire League but had to come frombehind to beat Darvel 4-1.
Ryan Miller put the hosts ahead but two goals before the break from 18-year-old Phil Middlemiss turned the tables. David Jardine made it 3-1 in 47 minutes and then after Darvel had Miller harshly sent off, Jardine wrapped it up with a penalty.
LUGAR warmed up for their cup visit of Glenrothes by routing fancied promotion rivals Winton 5-0. Tom McGinn (2), Andy Rae (2) and Johnny Anderson got the goals.
TROON fancy their chances at home to Benburb, despite toiling to a 2-0 win at Ardeer. A Brian Miller header split the teams at the break. Ricky Hanvey fired the second.
CRAIGMARK lost 2-1 at home to Hurlford. Scott Caldwell cancelled out Kevin Deeney’s opener but Robert McPike hit the winner.
