CLASSY Caledonian Football Club are Scottish Cup champions after beating Easterhouse Thistle 2-1 in Sunday’s age 17 final at Airdrie.
David McGivern’s heroes followed in the footsteps of Jim Morrison’s under 13 team who brought Caley their first ever Scottish success a few years ago.
Constant early pressure paid off in ten minutes when Iain Reid fired home following a corner. Thistle equalised midway through the second-half but straight from the restart, Ciaran Black chipped a great pass over the defence for Nicky Fleming to head home.
Boss McGivern said: “The players surpassed all my expectations and I’m so proud. We’re the new kids on the block and it was nice that Jim, who led the previous team to victory, came round to my house the night before to wish us well.”
The Caley team was: Ross Lundy; Conner Simpson, Daniel Cassells, Calum Hercus, Jordan Duncan; Ciaran Black, Adam Black, Kieran Smith, Nicky Fleming; Brendan McGivern (capt), Iain Reid. Subs: Declan McClymont, Calum Watson, Stewart Armstrong, Michael Paxton, Owen Cook.
Caley, who earlier won the president’s cup, hope to finish runners-up to league winners Troon Amateurs.
