Paisley Saints make Troon Ladies suffer

TROON ladies were hit by a late sucker punch as they lost 4-3 away to Paisley Saints on Sunday.

They were rocked early on when Liz Ferguson was controversially sent off after clashing with a Saints player in a race for the ball.

Despite being a player short, Troon took the lead when Gemma Canning played a nice ball to Fiona Woods who was hauled down for a penalty which skipper Alison Duncan converted.

Another through ball from Duncan resulted in Woods again being pulled down. Caitlin Barr’s swerving free-kick was only parried and Woods pounced to score. Paisley took advantage of the wind and slope to pull one back and then were denied the equaliser before the break by a fingertip save from Fiona Reid.

Paisley struck twice from suspiciously offside positions at the start of the second-half to take the lead but Duncan equalised with a stunning 35 yarder.

Troon were nearly back in front as Duncan spotted the keeper off her line and from almost the half way her shot was just blocked by a defender rushing back. Then both Woods and Nelson had chances stopped only by the woodwork before Paisley forced the ball home from a corner to settle a thriller.
