CALEDONIAN FC age 17s are facing a club against country heartache after winning through to the Scottish Cup final for the first time.
For eight of their players are due on international duty the same day as the final.
Caley beat Fauldhouse 2-1 after extra-time to set up a final against Easterhouse at Airdrie on Sunday May 3.
Manager David McGivern said: “It’s a wonderful achievement but now we are hoping that Hampden bosses will change the date of the final. We have eight lads in the CYP Scotland squad to face Wales at Aberdeen. We are in discussions with both bodies.”
David’s son Brendan headed Caley ahead after ten minutes but Fauldhouse equalised with ten minutes to go. Then right on the whistle, the home side won a soft penalty but Caley were relieved when it was skied over.
Caley had to play the last 25 minutes of extra-time a player short after Jordan Duncan was sent off. But they dug deep and with two minutes left, Adam Black nodded the winner from a Keiran Smith corner.
