Farrell's named as Cumnock boss

FANS’ favourite Stevie Farrell has a three year plan to restore Cumnock as a junior giant after being named new manager.

And he will have former Troon boss Jim Dempsey and ex-Scotland captain Tom Currie at his side after succeeding Campbell Money who left by mutual consent.

Crisis hit Cumnock are staring the drop and crashed out of the Ayrshire Cup when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Winton.

Farrell, 36, returned for a second stint as player in November after a brief spell at Irvine Meadow. He was a stalwart of the Kilwinning Rangers team which won six trophies in 1999.

He said: “Mathematically, we are capable of staying up but the law of averages is against us after such a poor start. The first aim is to bring stability but the three year aim is to get Cumnock back to the top.”

He will continue playing but will hand the skipper’s armband elsewhere until Stevie Murray returns from injury.

Money slammed the manner of the cup home defeat and hit out: “Losing was bad enough but the way we lost was appalling and Winton thoroughly deserved to win. I find that unacceptable.”

Cumnock had new signing Johnny McMillan from Glenafton on the bench against Winton. After Rhys Galloway fired them ahead, Graham Hamilton and Graham Muir rocked them.

Long serving secretary George Morton said: “I want to thank Campbell Money and Darren Henderson for their work.“
