Crime pays for Caledonian Youth Football Club

CRIME has paid for booming Caledonian Youth Football Club.

For they have netted £53,000 to construct a new synthetic five-a-side pitch at their Academy Park.

The grant comes literally from the proceeds of crime. A £1.3 million cashpot, the ill-gotten gains of criminals, is being reinvested under the Scottish Government’s Cashback for Communities scheme.

And more than 11,000 young people throughout the country will benefit with improved facilities.

Caley, who have more than 300 players aged from five to 17 in 15 teams, will use the money for a 3G training pitch.

Club chairman Ken Sinclair said: “We hope to have the pitch installed by early summer and believe it will be of great benefit to the club.

SFA chief Gordon Smith added: “This is about more than creating some good new facilities across Scotland, it is about giving more opportunities to our young people.”
