Honest Men find success in pastures new

Irvine Meadow

JUNIOR giants Irvine Meadow are celebrating a fairytale end to the season with a team that was made in Ayr.

No fewer than EIGHT former Honest Men were in the Meadow squad that beat Pollok 1-0 to wrap up their fourth honour of a marathon season.

And one of the former black and whites, Chris Robertson, was the match winner after a 25th minute free-kick was only half cleared.

Other ex-United men in the triumphant squad were Steven Swift, Mark Crilly, Chris Strain, David Hamilton, Andy McLaren, Paul Hyslop and Barry McLaughlin.

And next season, they will be joined by former Ayr full-back David Lowing who has been freed by Stirling.

The victory gave the big spenders the Evening Times Cup to add to the Premier League, Ayrshire Cup and Ardagh Cup they won earlier.

Meadow will join Auchinleck Talbot in the draw for next season’s senior Scottish Cup.
