Cumnock hit Carrick for seven

HONEST Campbell Money says Cumnock’s 7-1 rout in their opening pre-season friendly wasn’t a fair reflection.

And he insists Carrick Amateurs are heading for a good season despite the heavy defeat.

Money admitted: “We were able to finish strongly but only because we were able to bring on subs Richie Barr and Graham Wilson who made a big difference in terms of pace.

“But until then, Carrick did well and I was very impressed.”

Goals from Wilson (2), Barr (2), Brian Felvus, Stuart McDonald and Alan Gilbride swept Cumnock to victory.

Cumnock head to Dalry on Saturday but Sunday’s match against Stenhousemuir has been called off.

Meanwhile, Money has signed former Albion Rovers and Bellshill midfielder Jamie McKenzie after losing star midfielder John McLay to Arthurlie. Another new face is former Ayr United youth defender Craig Potter.

GLENAFTON were due to play Darvel away on Wednesday before hosting the Joe Meldrum Trophy on Saturday. Winton Rovers and Maxwelton compete from 1pm.

AUCHINLECK boss Tommy Sloan said a 4-2 win over Camelon thanks to goals from Ian Cashmore, Stephen White, Danny McKelvie and James Latta was a big improvement.

Rikki Robb has signed a new deal after proving his fitness following a knee injury late last season. Keeper Adam Strain has re-signed with Colin Spence set to follow.

Sloan could also offer a deal to former Morton midfielder Gary Phillips who played the first hour at Camelon.

On Wednesday night, Talbot were due at Irvine Vics and head to Penicuik on Saturday.

ANNBANK star Dwayne Hyslop scored from a free-kick and then hit the post with a penalty in a 2-1 defeat at home to Kello who counted through Paul Weir and David Frew.

Earlier, they beat Ayr United under 19s 3-1 and Arthurlie Ams 3-2 with new signing Graham Carmichael from Bonnyton Ams scoring three.

On Saturday, Bankies hope to include Kilwinning veteran Derek McCulloch as a trialist at home to Glencairn.

GIRVAN drew 1-1 against Johnstone Burgh 1-1 with Kevin Biggart on target. On Saturday, they host an Ayr United X1.

MAYBOLE lost 5-1 to Shotts in the Lugar tournament, manaing only an Andy Stevenson penalty. On Sunday, they bounced back to beat Lugar 4-0 with goals from Martin Reilly, Andy Stevenson, Chris Clark and Andy Boyle.

Lesmahagow won the tourney after drawing 2-2 with Lugar and 1-1 with Shotts but beating both on penalties.

Boss Peter Leonard has still to add to his squad.

TROON have signed 19-year-old striker Scott Cowan from Mauchline Ams. And he celebrated with a double in a 3-2 win over Hurlford Ams last Wednesday.

A Gordon Inglis hat-trick gave Troon a 3-2 win over Shettleston last weekend.

This Saturday, Troon are holding an open day at Portland Park from 12.30pm to 4.30pm featuring an under seven tournament, bouncy castle, crossbar challenge, penalty shoot-out, mini skills challenge. Admission is free.

A barbeque will be held in the evening. Tickets are £5.
