CUMNOCK bounced back from their Scottish Cup heartache to beat Maybole on penalties on Tuesday evening.
And that earned them a place in the final of the Ayrshire Cup at home to Kilwinning on Thursday night.
The tie will be an appetiser to the crucial home and away relegation play-offs against Buffs on June 16 and 18.
‘Nock took an interval lead with a deflected shot from Darren Henderson but Maybole levelled through Robert Love. That took the tie to penalties where Cumnock won 4-1.
Maybole player assistant boss Carlo Walker claimed: “We were by far the better team and missed five of the best chances.
“It’s the second year in a row in which we have lost on penalties in the semi-final of the Ayrshire Cup and the fourth spot-kick shoot-out in a row when we have failed.”
Maybole came from behind to beat Glenafton 2-1 in the quarter-finals last Wednesday.
David Gormley fired Glens ahead but ‘Bole equalised when Andy Stevenson got his head to a Paul Templeton corner and although keeper Garry Matthews parried, Stevie Crawford rammed home the loose ball.
With three minutes to go Stuart Peacock broke free to head home a Templeton free-kick.
