MARK ROBERTS says Tommy Burns will be his inspiration as he cuts his teeth as a player-boss.
Roberts played under the late Burns at Kilmarnock and says he will never forget his impact.
He said: "When Tommy took over he was 36 as I am. He was the best in everything, good habits and high standards and that's something we will try to do here.
"I learned off one of the best in Scotland. Tommy was a great man manager, a great human being and a really nice guy. If I do half as good as him I'll be delighted."
Roberts says being a former Kilmarnock player doesn’t worry him after taking over as Ayr’s main man.
He quipped: “In my three and a half years here I have grown to love the club.
“It’s a far cry from what I would have said 20 years ago.”
