FORGET Man Utd. It's East Stirling now that matters.
Ayr United go from hosting the beaten Champions League finalists to visiting the Third Division minnows.
But boss BrianReid insists it's Saturday's League Cup tie that takes top billing.
He said: “This is a serious competition and we want to continue our good start to the season.”
Teenage full-back Gareth Armstrong is set to be offered a pro contract after impressing in stints off the bench.
And Reid says Armstrong and Roddy Paterson are at the top of the queue as Ayr’s youngsters look to make their mark.
On trial Neil Scally played 90 minutes for the under 19s at Kilbirnie last Saturday and is closer to fitness.
And a fully fit Scally would be prime to be offered a deal.
Alex Burke has signed a season long contract but Reid wants to see more of Richie Hart before making an offer.
Reid said: “I’ve only 15 signed pros and two of them are keepers which is not enough. I am certainly looking to bring in a defensive midfielder.”
Ayr’s second round Ramsdens Cup tie at home to Raith has left the club in a quandary.
Somerset’s new floodlights will not be installed in time for either August 9 or 10.
Ayr were in talks with league officials on Wednesday to find a solution.
