Voice of Reason, 11th March

SO the chase continues.

And Livingston are being kept honest, at the very least.

But let’s face facts. We may as well buy our lottery tickets right now.

Because the play-offs are looming large for Ayr United.

History tells us this can be exciting banter.

It’s the only way of attracting more than 4000 to a game with Cowdenbeath, put it that way.

Thankfully, the Honest Men appear to be hitting their stride as we approach April.

Players back fit, options on the bench, looking more like the side that beat Hibs in January.

And if we play anything like that, our numbers will come up in this lottery.

Still, Leon Jackson told us there could be miracles.

Two wins over Livvy and we might not need that lottery afterall.

nTHIS weekend will bring a reminder of why it’s good to be a sport’s fan.

Formula 1 is back.

We’re heading down under for the opening race and the VoR is revving up with excitement.

As a young voice, I enjoyed duels between Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher.

These days, the personalities aren’t as big.

But the racing is just as exciting.

And the cars are just as sexy.

Be sure to join former Ayrshire Post girl Lee McKenzie and her team for top coverage.

nWHAT a shame to see the back of Cheltenham for another year.

The curtain came down in emotional fashion with a thrilling Gold Cup to round off a great meeting.

It will come as little surprise to readers to learn that I backed the winner when plumping for Long Run.

But like every other punter in the land, I was yelling at the screen cheering on old timers Kauto Star and Denman as they roared up the famous hill.

That would have been one betting slip I wouldn’t have minded tearing up.

Racing. The sport of kings.

nDEADLOCK in betting corner as the three amigos ride on.

Iain Ferguson managed to notch a solitary point to make his meagre total look ever so slightly better.

But myself and Allan Haggo are so far ahead that this stopped being a competition for Fergie long ago.

He limps on this week Stockport 1, Southend 3.

Title challenger Haggo goes for Brighton 3, Swindon 0.

The VoR says Stenhousemuir 0, Ayr 3.
