Voice of Reason, 7th January

IT’S the day we’ve all been waiting for.

And on Saturday, Ayr United will underline its potential as a football club.

Regardless of result, this will be a platform.

A massive travelling support is set to descend on Scotland’s capital city.

It’s the showcase to potential investors that we desperately need.

The thinking man knows exactly what is possible at Somerset Park.

Sparkling in the sunshine of Leith is the first step to making that happen.

The VoR shall see you in the away end.

SO I scouted Hibs in the Edinburgh derby. And they’re gash.

Spent 86 minutes trying to stop Hearts from playing.

Only to be undone with the finish line in sight.

For a team which was once renowned for attacking football, these must be sad days in Leith.

Colin Calderwood will look towards Saturday as a perfect chance to rack up some goals and confidence.

But teams on their uppers rarely find the going smooth in this type of contest.

They’re beatable. And our army will know it.

MAJOR well done to the volunteers and staff who got Somerset playable at the weekend.

It’s at times like these when you realise who’s really working for your club.

And at 8.30am on Sunday, a whole mob were in clearing covers off the pitch.

Take a bow each and every one of you.

ENJOYED a grand start to the year at Prestwick Cricket Club.

The annual meet has already got the juices flowing ahead of another glorious summer.

But the VoR’s night was somewhat ruined by a comedian on the karaoke who demanded I duet with him.

So there I was, stood with K*llie diehard Allan Haggo as Paper Roses belted out.

Needless to say, not a word passed my lips.

Quite honestly, one of the most shameful moments of my life.

And one which I may never recover from.

WE’RE in the middle of darting heaven, readers.

The PDC has just put on the finest world championship in history.

And how refreshing to see Adrian ‘Jackpot’ Lewis lift the crown in stunning fashion.

A new era may just have begun.

Definitely a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show over on the BBC just now.

Scott Waites at 5/2 will win it (so get your money on now), but it’s a pretty poor field.

No doubt, though, that darts is the sport of kings and what a start to 2011.

BETTING corner coming alive nicely as we storm into the new year.

Myself and the aforementioned Haggo are separated by just a point.

Iain Ferguson is somewhere back in the wilderness, but we’re allowing him to join in.

This week, Fergie goes Dundee 2, Motherwell 0.

Hapless Haggo opts for Aberdeen 3, East Fife 0.

I’ll extend my lead with Montrose 0, Dunfermline 3.
