Plans for football shake-up get cool response from Ayr United

PLANS to shake up Scottish football have been given a cool response by Ayr United.

Boss Brian Reid doesn’t see the logic of two SPL leagues of ten and forming regionalised lower divisions.

But he admits he’s warming to the idea of a shift to summer football.

Reid said: “I don’t agree with what is being proposed. The whole problem in this country is the boredom of playing the same team four, five or six times a season.

“I was lucky enough to play in England where you played a club home and away and that was it apart from the cups.

“Two games against one club a season is what people want. And I don’t think Scotland is big enough to need regionalised leagues.”

On talk of summer football, Reid is more positive. He said: “Training in summer nights would save us scrambling for parks and would let fans roll up in shorts and shirt sleeves to games. It would definitely help part-time clubs.”

Ayr’s home game against Forfar on Saturday is a certain non starter unless the weather forecasters have got it wildly wrong.

Ayr have still to find re-arranged dates for games against East Fife (home), Stenhousemuir (away) and Livingston (away).

Lower stand tickets for the Scottish Cup tie away to Hibs on Saturday, January 8 are now on sale from the club shop. Prices are £15 and £10.
