Ayr United academy girls beat Kilbirnie to win title

AYR United Academy girls 13s beat Kilbirnie 4-2 in a crunch decider to record the Academy’s first ever title and become proud champions of the South West ‘B’ League for 2010.

Kilbirnie took the lead when Sophie Crichton’s passback caught out keeper Hannah Davies and sailed into the empty net.

Ayr hit back with a Caitlin Taylor equaliser and then took the lead before the break when Dionne Mair’s lob was nodded home by Hannah Taysum.

Goals from Brooke Rawson and the prolific Mair stretched the lead. Chloe Cuthbert’s incredible pace and Nicola Fisher’s dogged determination and quick feet helped Ayr to continue to make chances.

With five minutes left, Davies made another brave save but was beaten in the dying seconds when Kilbirnie grabbed a consolation.

Players: Hannah Davies, Sophie Crichton (capt), Hannah Taysum (vice capt), Natalie Taylor, Caitlin Taylor, Dionne Mair, Nicole Carruthers, Chloe Cuthbert, Nicola Fisher, Brooke Rawson. Squad players not playing: Megan Lanni, Cara Graham, Natasha Goldie.

Head coach Paul Macfarlane said: “The girls thoroughly deserved their victory, with a great team performance in terms of effort and excellent sequences of passing, with pieces of individual flair.

“The coaches are very proud of the way the girls have worked hard.”
