Ayr United chairman Lachlan Cameron will commute from America
LACHLAN CAMERON insists he is still at the helm of Ayr United despite moving back to America.
And he has vowed to commute from California as he strives to lead the club to the dream of a new stadium.
Cameron, 40, flew home last week but will be back at Somerset Park next Thursday for ten days.
But the chairman admitted: “I will now be spending more time in California than in Scotland.
“However, I don’t play football – I don’t need to be there at 3pm on a Saturday.
“The people who need to be there every day are the manager and the players.
“The day to day running of the club takes care of itself but I will be in regular communication.”
Lachlan revealed he had returned home last week as he wanted his two children settled in America for the start of a new school term.
After spending the last five years running United without earning a penny, he will next year look to find a paid job.
Cameron pledged: “I am still working on stadium plans and turning the club into a community interest company.”
In November last year, the Post revealed how Lachlan had put the club up for sale after being frustrated by the inability to take it forward.
He said then: “This isn’t scaremongering on my part –- I simply can’t take the club any further with the finance available to me.
“Ayr United is a wonderful club. It’s been part of my life for over 20 years.
“But I have to look for someone who can take the club forward and give it the investment that I can’t.”
United commercial director Hugh Cameron confirmed: “Lachlan will remain as chairman and will be working on the stadium project until we hopefully get a successful conclusion.
“He will also retain his home in Ayr and commute from California throughout the year when appropriate.
“He has the support of a strong experienced group of directors and operations manager who will continue to manage the day to day operation of the club.”
