Ayr United 1 Raith Rovers 0
AYR United tasted their first victory in the Scottish First Division.
The 1-0 victory over Raith Rovers lifted the Honest Men up to seventh place in the table and just as importantly gave them a psychological boost.
Kenny Connolly was the match winner, his goal after 12 minutes sealing the points for Ayr. Latching onto a cross ball from Ryan Stevenson, Connolly managed to steer the ball home at the back post.
This was Raith's first reverse in the league since they lost to Ayr in last season's second division. Kevin James and Ryan Stevenson both hit the woodwork and at the other end, Ayr keeper Craig Samson was kept busy. Overall, Ayr were well worthy of their victory as they dominated for the most part.
The Honest Men now have a free weekend with the scheduled match against Dundee postponed due to the Taysiders involvement in the Alba Challenge Cup. Next match for Ayr will now be away to Dunfermline.
