Ayr United fans raise charity cash

GENEROUS Ayr United fans raised more than £2000 from a football quiz night.

It was sponsored by Ayr Central Shopping Centre and organised by Ayr United Football Academy and the Aberdeen branch of the United Supporters Club in the Somerset Park hospitality suite.

The funds will be split between the Academy and South Ayrshire branch of Alzheimers Scotland.

This was the first football quiz organised in Ayr to raise funds for these organisations and followed the successful format in Aberdeen where United fans based in the Granite City have raised over £30,000 for both causes over the past five years.

Former Scotland boss Craig Brown was guest speaker. Faye MacLeod, wife of former United manager Ally who suffered from Alzheimers Disease before his passing in 2004 and in whose name the events are held, presented the prizes to the Squirrelhunters team of Neal Hodge, Stephen Massie, John Dalton and Tony Gardner, winners of the inaugural Ally MacLeod Shield.

Academy commercial manager Ken Paul thanked all who supported the event.
