Ayr United 2 East Fife 0
THE second division title race looks as if it could go to the last day.
Ayr United and Raith Rovers both recorded 2-0 victories to stay as they were at the top of the division.
A quick-fire double from Ayr early in the second half ensured the Honest Men would keep the pressure on leaders Raith who were still level until 15 minutes from time.
Mark Roberts volleyed home the opener after 52 minutes after first half substitute Kenny Connolly had done the spadework, then two minutes later Connolly himself doubled the lead with an overhead kick from close range after the Methil men had failed to deal with a header from Scott Walker.
East Fife finished the match with ten men after Bobby Linn was sent off when he picked up a second yellow for diving inside the box allowing Ayr to coast to the finish.
Many within Somerset Park had their ears elsewhere but they were disappointed to hear news filtering through of Raith's victory against Brechin City.
Two games to go and everything still to play for. Ayr are at home to Alloa Athletic next week while Raith will travel to Glasgow to play Queen's Park.
