Ayr United, David Gormley
AYR United took another step towards the championship with a victory over Stirling Albion.
Raith Rovers are still hot on the heels of the Honest Men after consigning Stranraer to third division football next season with a 3-0 victory.
Not for the first time this season Ayr had to come from behind to claim the three points. With 13 minutes on the clock Grehan latched onto a long through ball before rifling past Grindlay from 18 yards to put Stirling in front.
Ayr got back on level terms as the game approached the half hour mark. David Gormley swivelled on a pass and crashed an unstoppable shot into the Hogarth's net from 25 yards. Ryan Stevenson cracked a shot against a post and Gormley just failed to head home an Easton cross as Ayr looked to get their noses in front. At the other end Grindlay saved from McKenna in a rare Binos foray upfield.
Right on half time a great move by Ayr was finished off by Gormley as he latched onto Alex Williams' ball to notch his brace.
It was all Ayr in the second half and they should have added to their tally long before Alex Williams wrapped up the points when he knocked home with the goal gaping after Albion keeper Hogarth couldn't hold Stevenson's strike. Five minutes earlier Stirling had been reduced to 10 men when Roycroft took an early bath after collecting a second yellow.
