United fans want their ShAyr

AYR United fans have called on the club to launch a shares issue for 2010 – the Honest Men’s centenary.

It was standing room only at the launch meeting of the ShAyr United campaign in an Ayr hotel on Saturday.

And it was agreed to bring forward a motion to initiate a share issue, open to ordinary fans.

Campaign spokesperson Mark Pettigrew said: “The launch meeting has again shown the depth of feeling that supporters have for the club. The campaign website will shortly have a letter that supporters can download, sign, and send to the chairman. We’ll be asking people to email the campaign when they’ve done this, so that we can monitor the level of support for a share issue.”

He added: “At the end of the meeting, attendees had the chance to fill in a blind pledge card to indicate how much they might consider investing in a share issue.

“Thirty five pledges were returned with the average pledge coming in at a very healthy £423.

“It’s clear that there is potential for the club to rake in tens of thousands of pounds at the very least from a share issue.

“The level of support has been tremendous. Our website had over 500 hits in the first week and our mailing list is growing daily, with fans across the globe signing up.

“We really hope the club can see the great opportunity to launch a share issue for 2010, the centenary of the club and an emotional event in the club’s history.”
