Ayr United fans want a piece of the action

A GROUP of Ayr United fans want the chance to buy a slice of their club.

They’re making a call for supporters to invest in shares and are launching their drive with a public meeting.

ShAyr United campaign organisers hope that with the club's centenary falling in 2010, fans will want to help move the cash strapped club forward.

A meeting will be held in the Ayrshire and Galloway Hotel on Saturday February 21 at 1pm.

Campaign spokesperson Mark Pettigrew said: "There has been a lot of interest from supporters who want to own a part of the club they support. We've had feedback from supporters all over the UK, ordinary fans, local businessmen, company directors and even a Cambridge University academic have been in touch to offer support."

He added: "We believe there are over six million unissued shares in Ayr United and the club is actively looking for investment. Many supporters would welcome the chance to invest in the club and see it prosper.

“We would love to see a large cash injection as much as the chairman and board of directors would, but we believe that a thousand fans investing £100 each is worth more than a single investor putting in £100,000."

Anyone interested in attending the meeting or wishing to be included on the campaign mailing list should send an email to shayrunited@aol.co.uk
