AYR kept their title ambitions alive after storming back from two goals down to claim a point against leaders Raith.
Scott Agnew's second half leveller capped a fine fightback from the Honest Men, who will top the league if they win their games in hand.
Rovers streaked into a 2-0 lead within nine minutes when Martyn Campbell and Mark Ferry punished slack defending in the Ayr ranks.
It took United half an hour to awake from their slumber and Ryan Stevenson's deflected shot got them back in the contest.
Ayr pressed forward after the break and new signing Mark Roberts missed two golden chances on his debut.
But they weren't to be denied and Agnew grabbed the equaliser when he headed home a Ryan Borris cross to earn a deserved share of the spoil
