IT WAS a good weekend for Ayr United despite the match against Queen's Park being postponed.
Ayr boss Brian Reid had said prior to the weekend's fixtures that he hoped Peterhead could do Ayr a favour and they certainly did. Raith Rovers had the chance to open a seven point gap over Ayr but Peterhead ensured the difference remains four with a 2-1 home victory over the Kircaldy club.
Next nearest challengers Brechin City also lost to East Fife at Bayview. Ayr travel to Brechin tomorrow night for a match which was postponed due to the Lochee Scottish Cup match. Ayr now have the opportunity to reduce the deficit at the top of the table to a solitary point.
