THE long road back from Peterhead gave Ayr United plenty time to reflect on their heaviest defeat of the season, equalled only by the trip to Methil and an identical scoreline against East Fife.
Graeme Sharp gave Peterhead an early lead when he headed home a Moore cross after 13 minutes. Ayr almost equalised twice with Ryan Stevenson and Dean Keenan both hitting the woodwork.
There wasn't much to choose between the teams and the deficit remained the same until Bavidge gave Peterhead some breathing space by doubling the advantage after 72 minutes.
Four minutes from time substitute Craig Gunn fired home a third from outside the box to ensure it was a long road back to Ayr for the Honest Men.
Brian Reid will now have to motivate his squad for tomorrow's Scottish Cup replay against Lochee United at Somerset and the chance of a pop at Kilmarnock in the next round.
