VOICE OF REASON
THE VoR is reading a very good book at the moment.
Penned by cycling giant Lance Armstrong, it tells the tale of his battle with cancer and all things Tour de France.
And one theme runs throughout the pages. “Turn every negative into a positive,” says Lancelot.
So what in the name of a yellow jersey does this have to do with things at Somerset Park?
Take Saturday – quite frankly rather disappointing. If you don’t buy tickets then you don’t win raffles. And so, if you can’t even test the visiting goalkeeper on your home soil, then start staring in some mirrors.
But this is where the positivity comes into play. Last season, we’d have lost that game.
Quite simply, both sides cancelled each other out and neither deserved to win. But four months ago, we’d have contrived to buckle.
On Saturday, it never looked like happening. Martyn Campbell and Scott Walker are beasts and perfectly built for this league.
It’s a home point and a solid one at that. Now we go to Alloa for a game I have little doubt we’ll win. And if so, a return of four points from two games wouldn’t be half bad.
As big Lance said, keep turning those negatives into positives and you won’t be far off.
LOOKALIKE corner has sprung us a beauty this week.
And not only does this man have a physical resemblance, he goes about his business in uncannily similar fashion.
We’re talking about Bryan Prunty and Kenny Miller. One in the same beautiful person, my friends.
They’ll both work their backsides off for the team, and are such intelligent players they should be having a crack at Mastermind.
Pictorial evidence? Damning, of course.
THE new match programme design is quite neat in my view.
Well done to all involved for a readable publication that’s a fine ongoing tribute to Somerset Park in its, ahem, final season.
But some more programme sellers to actually punt them would be nice.
THE VoR v Dougie Morton charity challenge is underway.
And it’s an early lead for quiet man Morton who pulled a stonker out the bag last week with Peterhead’s win at East Fife. Fair play old boy.
So it’s advantage Dougie as he takes a 1-0 lead into this Saturday. Now the lottery guru is bravely going for three in a row Premier champions Celtic to win at home to relegation candidates St Mirren with a 2-0 scoreline. Thrilling stuff.
Me? I’m on Ayr to beat Alloa 3-1. Ambitious given what we witnessed against Raith, perhaps, but this is us away from home remember.
Incidentally, Dougie is playing for the Yorkhill sick kids’ hospital. The VoR will announce his winning charity next week.
