Stevenson still at Ayr Utd despite speculation

TRANSFER target Ryan Stevenson insists he’s still an Ayr United player despite growing speculation that he could be heading south.

Stevo spent two days as a guest of Hartlepool United last month.

And the English League One Club are believed to be keen to follow up their interest.

But Stevo, who is just back from a holiday in Mexico, says he is still in the dark as to what happens next.

He said: “I met the manager Danny Wilson, spoke to their chairman and trained with the first team squad.

“They also showed me around accommodation and were keen to get me back down there. It’s a high standard league with lots of good players.

“However, since then I have heard nothing and am now focussing all my thoughts on returning to pre-season training with Ayr at the end of the month.”

Stevo’s 17 goals saw him short listed for the Second Division player of the season award and scoop a host of fans’ awards.

And he will collect another when the Honest Men Trust hold their prize quiz night in The Auld Hoose on June 28.

Meanwhile, Ayr will play twice in 24 hours after their Challenge Cup tie away to East Stirling was re-arranged for Sunday July 27.

It was put back because ‘Shire groundshare with Stenhousemuir who were also drawn at home.

Ayr are already committed to playing Rangers in the Davie Harkness testimonial on Monday July 28.

Next season’s fixtures are due to be released on Monday by the Scottish League. First league games are on Saturday August 2.
