Reid heads south

AYR boss Brian Reid is spreading the net to England for new players.

And some targets will be invited to Somerset Park for pre-season training.

Reid said: “I plan to watch some of the Scottish play-off games but also hope to take in some action down south.

“A few names in England have been recommended to me and some who are on my hit list may be invited for training.”

Ayr could head to Northern Ireland for a pre-season weekend where a game against Crusaders is a possibility.

But with a date still to be firmed up for the Davie Harkness testimonial against Rangers, they have declined an invitation to the Annan tournament.

The new season kicks off on Saturday July 26 with first round ties in the Challenge Cup.
