Away the lads, we can’t stop winning

IF only Ayr could play away every week, they would be climbing high.

Two weeks after beating leaders Ross County on their own patch, they did the same the second top Airdrie United last Wednesday.

Goals from Paul McLeod, his first for the club, and Ryan Stevenson swept Ayr clear and only the woodwork denied them more.

A Stevenson free-kick and a curling effort from Alex Williams both hit the bar before the break.

A goal was delayed only until 54 minutes when Jerome Vareille crossed for McLeod to head his first goal since joining on loan from Hamilton.

Victory was sealed in 70 minutes when Williams ran on to a huge clearance from Mark McGeown and set up Stevenson for a simple finish into the bottom corner.
