War hell-hole beats Kilmarnock any day!

NOT many Ayr United fans have a liking for Kilmarnock.

And here’s one who would rather fight the TALIBAN than take a trip up the A77.

Prestwick lad Andy Connell would even share a pint with his Afghan rivals before anyone from Rugby Park.

The RAF medic grabbed his gun and a camera in the desert to send home a powerful message of just how much he dislikes Ayr’s bitter rivals.

And he laughed: “I’d rather be here in a warzone than Kilmarnock!”

Andy, 20, serving four months as an aero-med in Kandahar, pulled on the United colours in front of stunned mates for his strip show.

And the Ayr season ticket holder is adamant that being in a war-torn country beats the surroundings of nearby Killie.

He insisted: “Afghanistan may be a total hell-hole but it still beats Killie.

“Plus you get a lot more sense out of the average Afghan than a Kilmarnock fan.”

And he joked: “One of my main intentions of coming here was to get this picture taken — so I’m glad I succeeded!”

But Andy admits his time away was blighted by the bad news from home about Ayr’s progress on the pitch.

He said: “All the guys follow the football every Saturday on the British Forces Broadcasting Service and it’s rarely been good news for me.

“The others all support big clubs like Everton and I’m sat there in my Ayr top trying to explain to them who we are.

“But I’m looking forward to getting back to the games and seeing the team for myself. Hopefully the results pick up a bit!”
