AYR United amateurs followed up last week’s 3-1 win over Celtic with a 2-2 draw at home to high flying Morton.
Ayr raced ahead with two goals insie the first 15 minutes. Chris Todd rifled home from a Fraz McDonald cutback and then David Hainey latched onto a slack pass and strode through the middle to slot home the second.
At this stage United seemed to take their foot of the pedal and Paul Docherty got one back with a flashing header before the break.
Morton grabbed a draw when Roy Donnachie stuck out a careless foot in the area to concede a cheap penalty.
Joe McCauley’s resultant kick was brilliantly parried by David Farrell only for Neil Gannon to rifle the rebound home.
Sub Grant Sherwin came closest to an Ayr winner when he met a Gary McNeil free-kick at the back post.
