TWO MORE QUIT AYR

AYR UNITED have been shocked by two more resignations less than a week after the departures of manager Neil Watt and his assistant Stuart Millar.

Vice-chairman Mark Meehan and company secretary Iain Pearson quit last Friday.

Meehan, who joined the Board three years ago, stressed his out of the blue exit was in no way linked to the club’s new stadium plans which have still to go before the council’s planning committee 11 months after being submitted.

He declined to state the reasons for his decision but said he still had a hunger and enthusiasm for a continued involvement in football.

He now plans a break before considering his options.

Meehan added: “I may continue to assist the club on a consultancy basis with advancing the stadium development project.

“I have acted as lead director on the project from the outset and while progress with the planning applications has been slower than anticipated, I believe that the parties to the project are moving close to a positive outcome.”

Meehan went on: “I believe I have made a significant contribution and have assisted the Board in navigating the club through some challenging times and towards a better future.

“I particularly thank chairman Donald Cameron for his valued and unstinting support during my tenure and I thank my colleagues on the Board who continue to work tirelessly for the club.”

Pearson will continue to assist the club as required on an interim basis.
