Gaffer swoops in for Craig

AYR United have made defender Craig Higgins their sixth summer signing.

The former Aberdeen youth player, who ended last season at Dundee, will also add to the ex Stranraer colony at Somerset Park.

Higgins played 32 times under United boss Neil Watt during a spell at the Blues.

The 21-year-old utility man can play in any position across the back and made four SPL starts in his time at Aberdeen.

Higgins also lists Elgin and Montrose among his former clubs.

He joins Michael Moore, Murray Henderson, Barry John Corr, David Hamilton and Stephen Swift in signing on at Somerset this summer.

On his way out of United is Ryan Caddis, who has completed a move to relegated Stranraer.

Meanwhile, the details for next month’s Brewers Cup in Annan have been confirmed.

Ayr will open with a game against Queen of the South with the winners facing either Annan or Stranraer.

Fixtures: Saturday July 14: Annan v Stranraer (noon); Ayr v QOS (3.15pm). Sunday July 15: Third/fourth place play-off (noon); Brewers Cup Final (3pm).
