FORMER Ayr United boss Gordon Dalziel faces the fight of his life to save Glenafton from the relegation play-offs.
But confident Daz has vowed to give it his best shot and vowed: “I’m excited about the challenge.”
Crisis hit Glens turned to Dalziel for a second time after Gerry Collins quit following a 2-1 Ayrshire Cup defeat by lower league Dalry.
And they hope that Daz, who was a big hit at New Cumnock before being lured to Raith, can work the oracle to pull them clear.
Glens close their league season against Petershill at Cambuslang on Friday needing a win to avoid a shoot-out against the team that finishes third top of the Super First Division.
Glens trail fourth bottom Bellshill by a point but their opponents have a game in hand and a better goal difference to boot.
However, a win will fire them above Kilsyth who have finished their programme.
Daz said: “I’ve been there, know all the people at the club and can’t wait to get back on the training ground again.
“I’ve got a big task and my first job is to keep them in the Premier Division.
“Gerry had problems with a horrendous injury list but I know some of the players that are there. The club has good people to work with and I’m up for the fight.”
Former Glenafton cup winner Scott Archer is returning as Daz’s number two.
It was originally announced that former boss Jock McStay would go back as his assistant but work commitments have ruled him out.
Coaches Andy Dunlop, David Kennedy and Jim Denny are staying on as part of a five man team.
