United set to pounce

AYR UNITED have interviewed six candidates for the vacant manager’s job and could have their new man in place next week.

Former Stranraer boss Neil Watt and current caretaker Brian Reid are believed to head a list that also includes Malcolm Shotton, Alan Kernaghan and Gardner Speirs.

The club completed the round of interviews on Monday evening and will whittle the list down to one or two later this week.

Watt, who led Stranraer to promotion from the Third to the First Division before quitting to concentrate on his business, is thought to head the race.
