Northfield senior fours bid for two titles in a row

NORTHFIELD are bidding for a home win in the national senior fours for the second year in a row.

John Brown, Brian Auld, Tommy Semple and Douglas McKie overcame wind and rain to win through the District 19 finals at Maidens on Friday evening.

They staked their place in the Northfield finals from July 25 to 29 when they beat Coylton's Willie Robertson, Ian McGregor, Willie Taylor and Willie McArthur 17-12.

Brian Hutcheson (Crosshill) is through to his third Northfield finals after beating Sandy Graham (Drongan) 21-13 in the singles.

Craig Cobbledick (Coylton) went through in the junior singles with a 21-16 win over Aaron Coulter (Crosshill).

Pairs: Mark Kerr and Jordan Slaven (Tarbolton) 14, Eddie and Stuart England (Northfield) 4.

Triples: Jim Moore, Gordon McFadzean & Malcolm Baillie (Coylton) 13, Sandy Wyllie, Robert Baird & Ian Hutcheson (Crosshill) 12. Fours: Steven Guthrie, Tom Bohan, Stuart Gemmell & Garry Johnstone (Auchinleck) 17, Robert Malcolmson, John Clark, Ryan Dempsey & Stuart Christie (Crooksmoss) 13.

Through to the mixed pairs final at Bainfield on August 17 are Claire Johnston and James Gibson (Auchinleck).

They beat Seafield’s Irene Law and Allister Reid at Craigie and now hope to go one better than last year when they lost in the final.

lDISTRICT finals of Bowls Scotland ladies section 13 will be held at Auchinleck on Sunday. Due to dual qualification of two players, the triples final will be held at 10.30 am.

Jean Sykes, Nan Little, Jeanette McGilvray Cumnock will play Donna Clark, Margaret Clark and Shirley Griffin of Ochiltree. All other games start at 1.30pm.

Under 25 singles: Carrie McLean (Cumnock) v Cheryl James (Annbank); singles: Jean Sykes (Cumnock) v Donna Clark (Ochiltree).

Pairs: Pauline Gilmour & Liz Hume (Lugar) v Mollie Sunter & Mhari Lindsay (Auchinleck). Fours: J. Grier, M. Smith, R. Simpson & M. Grier (Galston) v R. Beck, B. Murdoch, J. Thomson & F. Stewart (Sorn).

Over 55 rinks: I. Cairns, I. Christie, M. Ross & R. Gilmour (Galston) v W. Cook, M. Myatt, A. Kyle & F. Young (Hurford).

Winners will represent District 13 in the national championship finals at Northfield.

Also at 1.30pm, the district final of the ladies two bowl triples will be held between A. Taylor, D. Foster & M. Henderson (Galston) against N. Wright, J. Ross & S. McCluskie (LWM Galston).

The winner will represent district 13 in the national final on Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5 in Glasgow
