Indoor bowling: Prestwick senior gents beat Dumbarton

AMBASSADOR Prestwick's senior gents joined Lanarkshire andArdrossan on 14 points at the top of their Scottish League section after beating Dumbarton 60-59.

Wins recorded by the rinks skipped by Michael Higgins, Morris Sturgeon and Alan Paxton were enough to compensate for a 17 shot defeat for the Billy McArthur quartet.

Individual scores: Michael Higgins 17, R Jardine 14; Morris Sturgeon 22, J Shields 8; W McArthur 6, J Gillies 23; Alan Paxton 15, G Lunan 14.

The leagues now take a break over the festive season when the Prestwick seniors will be hoping to take their current run of form into 2012.

Alex Adrain and Paul Foster made it through to the semi finals of the national pairs championships after wins over Cowal 23-12, Midlothian 21-14, Coatbridge 23-21 and Inverclyde 19-18.

The Prestwick duo now face Elgin in the semi final at Coatbridge on March 31 with the final taking place the following day.

The club's ladies representatives also went close to making the semis, going down by 15 shots to Midlothian in their quarter final, after seeing off Allander 24-8, Blantyre 25-17, and Lanarkshire 27-15.

However, it was not to be for Jean Paterson and Val O'Neill as they went out against the strongly fancied Midlothian pair.

The juniors travel to East Lothian for the Team Championship on Monday. Players should report to the stadium by 7.45am.

Rink 1: Adam Grant, Connor Cannell, Andrew Weir, Jordan Slaven; Rink 2: Darren Weir, Dawn Anderson, Craig Gouldstone, Craig Cathie.

Craig Gouldstone qualified for the finals of the School of Excellence on Sunday at Auchinleck after winning through a tough section. Jordan Slaven, who was a member of the national fours winning rink a couple of weeks ago, just failed to qualify.

The indoor car boot sale will resume on Sunday, January 15. Tables can be reserved by calling Garry at the stadium on 01292 477802. Cost is £10 per table.
