AUCHINLECK’S Stewart Anderson made it three Ayrshire players into the quarter-finals of the world singles championship at Potters in Great Yarmouth.
Anderson, 24, played the game of his life to dump five times world indoor champion Alex Marshall on Tuesday.
After losing the first set 10-4, he took the second 9-4 and then won a three end tie break.
That takes the world under 25 champion into a last eight tie against either Jason Greenslade or John Price on Friday at 7.30pm.
Also still going strong are Troon’s Paul Foster and former Annbank man David Gourlay.
Three times winner Foster beat Arbroath’s Darren Burnett 7-7, 9-8 while Gourlay, the number six seed, dumped Aussie Kelvin Kerkow.
The semi-finals are on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
Auchinleck seniors beat Glasgow 58-55 in their last league match but failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the League Cup as they had to win by 26 shots.

The senior selectors will now select a team for the senior knockout cup when Auchinleck play Blantyre at Ardrossan on Wednesday, January 27.
The gents lost 89-70 away to Arbroath in the penultimate game of the SIBA league.

Auchinleck juniors lost 6-0 away to Ardrossan in the second last league match.
On Sunday, the Auchinleck top team beat Blantyre 6-2 at Ardrossan.

The next game for Auchinleck top team is on Sunday, February 14 at Lanarkshire when their opponents will be East Kilbride.
In the Baird Bowl, Auchinleck indoor beat Cumnock 6-2 while Auchinleck outdoor beat Lugar by the same score.
Tonight (Thursday), there is bingo for members at 7.30pm.
On Friday, 16 teams from Ayrshire will play at Auchinleck for the Ayrshire Rural Bowling Championship. Play starts at 10am with the final scheduled for 3.30pm.
On Saturday, Auchinleck will host the playdowns of the SIBA national triples from 9.30am to 6pm. As Auchinleck is a venue, the home triple of Alex Fleming, Stewart Anderson and Garry Johnstone travel to Stirling to play Prestwick at 9.30am.
The SWIBA national triples playdown for Auchinleck ladies will be held at Cumbernauld when Josephine Williamson, Marjory Kirkwood and Bunty Mackin will play Clydebank at 9.30am.
On Sunday, the joint playdowns of the SIBA and SWIBA triples continue at 9.30am with the quarter-finals at 2pm. Also being played on Sunday is the playdown for the Irn Bru school of excellence when junior members aged between 16 and 18 compete in a round robin competition. Ardrossan, East Kilbride, Galleon, Paisley and Prestwick will be represented.
