Prestwick pair keep their national places

PRESTWICK pair Paul Boyd and Craig England have retained their positions for the international series at Perth in March.

Prestwick seniors survived a nail-biting finish to beat Galleon 65-60 and extended their section lead to four points with three games remaining.

On Saturday, the seniors visit Paisley. Rink 1: Scott Watson, Tom Howson, Hector Berretti, Morris Sturgeon; Rink 2: Willie Ferguson, John Lindsay, Alan Paxton, Michael Higgins; Rink 3: Willie Kennedy, Alex Thomson, Jim Ross, Joe Reid; Rink 4: Eddie Doolan, John Docherty, Tommy Collins, Cliff Eade.

The gents lost 82-75 in a last end thriller at Midlothian and now take a break before resuming at West Lothian in the New Year.

Scores: Robert McCulloch 26, G. Archer 12; Paul Boyd 16, W. Peacock 22; Drew Boyd 16, W. Rankin 22; Colin Smith 17, D. Peacock 26.

This weekend sees action in the national pairs playdowns with Craig England and Paul Boyd facing Inverclyde at Blantyre (9.30am) and Val O'Neill and Rose-ena Smillie taking on Fintry at East Kilbride (2pm).

In the Ayrshire, Prestwick hosted the final week of the ladies league having already wrapped up the title. The gents lost 6-2 to Ardrossan at Galleon while the juniors lost 8-0 at Ardrossan.
