Stewart Anderson will captain British Isles U25s

AUCHINLECK’S man of the moment Stewart Anderson will captain the British Isles under 25 international series at Ballymoney in January 2010.

The world under 25 singles champion came through an international trial match at Cumbernauld on Sunday. But there was no joy for Colin McBride who missed out.

Auchinleck gents were edged out 78-73 at home to Midlothian.

The ladies fought out a 79-79 draw away to Blantyre. Scores: J. Sykes 24, S. Hamilton 19; J. Williamson 22, B. Forsyth 15; H.Kay 15, F. Walker 31; E. Magorian 18, E. Young 14.

The seniors beat Irvine 72-55 away. Scores: W. McArthur 14, J. McDonald 18; Dvd Mitchell 3, C. Hay 6; W. Sykes 16, W. Macdonald 13; J. McCracken 11, T. Clark 18.

The juniors beat Galleon 6-2 at Auchinleck. Scores: C. McClue 25, R. Gall 5; S. Lowrie 10, C. Burns 19; K. McKenzie 16, C. Ferrie 11.

On Sunday, Auchinleck hosted the Ayrshire Top Nine competition for pairs, triples and fours. Winners were Ardrossan who beat Prestwick 22-16.

There are no league matches for any teams on Saturday due to the ladies and gents national singles, junior singles and two bowl pairs finals being held at West of Scotland IBC over the weekend.

Auchinleck have players in the three gents semi-finals. StewartAnderson will play Steven Allan of Alloa at 11.30am in the under 25 singles.

Garry Johnstone will play Mike Stepney of Elgin at 2pm in the national singles. Stewart Anderson and Colin McBride will play David McGill and Andrew Furye of Arbroath in the national two bowl pairs.

On Sunday, Auchinleck will host the Baird Bowl competition. At 12 noon, Cumnock will play Mauchline while at 2pm, Auchinleck indoor will play Sorn.
