SEAFIELD star Allister Reid is bidding to make it third time lucky in the national championships at Northfield.
The gents and ladies competitions are running side by side for the first time with the men getting underway on Wednesday morning. Ladies play today (Thursday), men on Friday and ladies on Saturday. All semi-finals and finals are held on Sunday.
Reid has an opening tie against Jeffrey Robertson (Monquhitter). Other Ayrshire ties are: Hugh Montgomerie (West Kilbride) v Jim Pringle (Aberlady); David Crawford (Galston) v David Cannon (Kirkcowan).
In the junior singles, James Gibson (Auchinleck) takes on Elliot Reid (Westermains). Other Ayrshire ties are: Alan Johnstone (Blacklands) v Darren Couper (Denny); James Anderson (Kilmarnock North West) v Chris Bryden (Coatbridge).

Sheila Cole (Kincaidston) and Jean Sykes (Cumnock) carry local hopes in the women’s singles. Sheila plays Amy Robertson (Braid) while Jean takes on Caroline Brown (Bellshill).
There is an all Ayrshire clash in the two bowl pairs where Annbank (Annis Gerrard and Betty Richmond) take on Cumnock (Joan McKenzie and Karen Lorimer).
Dundonald’s Sadie Mullen and Kathy McCormick play Radnor Park in the four bowl pairs.
Cumnock’s Elaine McKenzie, Fiona Sykes and Karen Cairney have a first round triples tie against Oban.
Troon Portland are chasing the fours. Carol Murray, Pat Sutherland, Val O’Neill and Sharon McLachlan line up against Shottstown.
In the senior fours, Dunaskin Doon’s Alice Wallace, Noreen Murray, Jean Walker and Sheila Dunn have a first round walkover against Springrove.
Cumnock’s Jenny Holland, Mary Dalgleish, Irene Douglas and Jean Plenderleith take on St Ronans.
