Allister Reid is aiming for third time lucky

SEAFIELD star Allister Reid will bid to make it third time lucky in the Scottish national finals at Northfield.

He booked his place in the singles when he beat Derek Smith (Auchinleck) 21-19 in a District 19 thriller at Glaisnock Valley last Friday.

The tie was locked 19-19 when Reid, who has twice before lost at Northfield, produced a double for victory. Now he will look to go one step further when he lines up in the finals from July 29 to August 2.

Auchinleck's James Gibson took the junior singles with a 21-13 win over Chris Duffy (Craigie).

The pairs went to the last bowl when Kenny Renwick drew the winning shot to seal a 15-14 win his Craigie partner Bob Craine over George Burns and Archie McNeillie (Rankinston).

Newton Park's Andy Marshall, Gordon Nelson and Graeme Campbell won the triples. But the contest was much closer than suggested by the 15-1 win over Tarbolton's Peter Brown, Craig Lindsay and Colin Smith.

The fours went to the host green's Murray Thomson, Brian Jolly snr, Stewart Anderson and James Gribben jnr. The Glaisnock Valley quartet were 19-8 winners over Crosshill's Ian Aitken, Willie McKnight, Brian Connolly and Jim Miller.

Catrine's A. Wilson, A. Jamieson, T. Kellett and D. Mitchell took the senior fours with an 18-9 win over J. Murphy, S. Latimer, J. McKenzie and G. Jack (Seafield).
