Prestwick Bowlers Make it a Family Affair

Ian and Lorna Thomson

IT’S green for go in the Thomson household as two big bowls dates draw near.

For dad and daughter Ian and Lorna Thomson have both won through to the national finals at Northfield.

And it’s all thanks to Ian’s late mum Margaret who was a keen bowler.

Ian, 72, has qualified for the gents senior fours finals with his rink of Tom Malloch, Jim Irvine and Willie Ferguson.

And Lorna, 40, will line up in the women’s singles for the first time after beating Ayr’s Rose McAuley in the district playdowns.

Ian’s wife Jean joked: “I’m dodging bowls everywhere at home. We’re all keen members at Newton Park and Prestwick Indoor. But it was grannie Margaret who got us involved, she was a keen bowler and passed down the bug.”

The women’s finals run from Friday to Sunday. The gents finals follow on July 31, August 1 and 2.
