Auchinleck go three and easy

THREE Auchinleck players — Claire Johnston, Jean Sykes and Josephine Williamson — have been named in the Scottish women’s international trial.

The big shoot-out comes at Stirling on Saturday February 2.

Claire was in action in the world bowls tournament at Potters last week.

She teamed up with Greg Harlow to win the quarter-finals of the mixed pairs, winning one set and a tie break.

But the duo met their match in the semi-finals when they lost to Alex Marshall and Caroline Brown.

Claire now plays in the ladies world match play singles this week.

Auchinleck seniors lost 78-50 to Galleon in the last game of the season. They finished third on 16 points behind Galleon (22) and Glasgow (18).

Winners of the Ayrshire Rural competition were Perceton ‘B’ who beat Auchencloigh in the final. They now play in the Scottish finals at Auchinleck on Monday April 21.

In the Ayrshire Top Nine competition, Auchinleck were second to Prestwick, being narrowly beaten by two points.

On Saturday, Auchinleck juniors play Blantyre in the SYIBA Top Ten at Auchinleck.

Alex Fleming and Stephen Robertson play Nithsdale in the SIBA national pairs playdowns at the Galleon.

Jean Sykes and Heather Kay play East Kilbride in the SWIBA national pairs playdowns at Ardrossan.

On Sunday, the SIBA school of excellence takes place at Ardrossan when Auchinleck will be represented by Andrew Johnston.

The SYIBA Ayrshire pairs and triples will be held at Auchinleck from 10am to 2pm. Home pairs are Adam and Gavin Smith. The triples are David McLelland, Craig Wilson and Ryan Robinson.
