SUN, fun and three days of fantastic racing.
That was Ayr Gold Cup 2009.
More than 21,000 people flocked to Ayr spending around £2million in pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels and of course Ayr Racecourse itself.
John Robinson from Newcastle was among those who travelled hundreds of miles to enjoy the event.
He said: “I race all over – York, Doncaster, Ascot and Longchamp and Ayr is exceptional and the staff are wonderful.”
London girl Alex Wilson couldn’t believe her luck when she landed first prize in the best dressed ladies contest.
She drove off in a Vauxhall Tigra courtesy of Kerr and Smith and Iveco Trucks.
She said: “It is unbelievable. Its my first trip to Ayr races and I’ve won this fabulous car. I’m so excited.
“Now I’ll have to arrange another visit here to drive my car back home.”
Runner up was Nicola Healy of Kilmarnock who won a seven night cruise courtesy of Stewart Travel and Fred Olsen and third prize went to Mauchline woman Jillian Wyllie – a piece of jewellery from Alex Cairncross and a spa package for two from Purity Spa at Lochgreen House.
The best dressed gent was Scott Stimson of Ayr who was presented with a £300 voucher courtesy of Slater Menswear.
