Prestwick Amabassador senior gents go four points clear

Prestwick Ambassador’s senior gents team stormed four points clear at the top of their Scottish League section when they beat Lanarkshire by 21 shots (51-72) at Wishaw on Saturday.

Wins for Michael Higgins (16-12) Allan Paxton (12-11) Morris Sturgeon (23-13) and Billy McArthur (21-15) secured the points, and with only three games left to play in the section, the seniors have put themselves in a strong position for qualification to the final stages of the competition.

It wasn’t such good news for the gents side as they lost heavily to Auchinleck at the Well Road stadium, losing on all four rinks by a total of 42 shots. Defeats for Craig Cobbledick, Craig Lindsay, Kevin Nibloe and Paul Boyd against Stuart Anderson, Derek McClue, Dougie Watson and Garry Johnstone respectively put a major dent in the Prestwick club’s bid for the promotion play-offs.

They now need to win their last two games and hope other results go their way if they are to have any chance of promotion back to the Premier League next season.

The ladies team had no game last weekend and are back in action this Saturday when they face a strong Lanarkshire side at home. With Lanarkshire leading the table, four points ahead of the Prestwick Ambassador ladies, a win is a must if the Ayrshire club are to stay in contention.

The gents have no game this week as they were due to play the now closed Newton Stewart club, while the seniors side face East Kilbride at home hoping to seal their league section.

The club’s under 35 team faced a strong Blantyre side away from home in the return leg of their first round game with an 8-2 lead from their home tie and lost on all four rinks for a 10-0 defeat, a result which sees them exit the competition.
