Whitletts Vics will not be changing their name. Club members narrowly rejected a proposal for a new identity to reflect their status as Ayr’s junior football club.
Vice chairman John Dalton said: “Since the initial decision was made, some members have clearly had a change of heart.
“They believe that 68 years of history was more important than the potential commercial and promotional opportunities that may have been available in a name change to reflect that the club comes from Ayr and is the town’s only junior club.
“When football loses the romanticism and nostalgia then the game is much the poorer and the members have voted that way. That decision has to be respected because at the end of the day, the members are Whitletts Victoria.
“This decision does not alter the fact that the club comes from Ayr and we will continue to promote it as Ayr’s junior club and work for the benefit of the community of Ayr.”
